Ian

This looks a great programme and yes the fine mines (There
is some excellent mining archaeological work being
conducted in the Vosges area) and wines, and cuisine, do
have a strong attraction and I am sure many of us would
have loved to have come to the Conference, me included.
Most people however need more than a month in advance
warning to drop everything to go to a Conference. This was
also my criticism with regard to the organisation of the
October Mining Conference at Linares, Spain were only four
months notice was given. Conference organisers take note -
the current conference at Milos was well advertised in
advance, as was the NAMHO Conference at Truro Cornwall
(over 200 delegates and a success) and so is the 2002 NAMHO
Conference at Aberystwyth Wales -the call for papers has
already gone out. My personal opinion is that if Conference
organisers want their Conference to be a success they
should adverise widely and well in advance, at least a
year. This is not meant as a personal knock at Ian but a
general plea to mining conference organisers. If the
Wattwiller Conference has been advertised widely (outside
France, Germany and Switzerland) and in good time then
apologises to the organisers, but as far as I am concerned
this is the first time I have been aware of it taking place.
