Ref. coll. fires, may I refer you to those fires that have been in existence
in India for a great many years. I refer you to the Mining Magazine where
there was an article on same, about 6 mths ago or so. The coal consumed by
these fires is not only vast, but consumes about 25% of India's coal
reserves, and they are, by their (India's admission) 'out of control'. The
technicalities to extinguish same are huge and very complex - & the
authorities are working on the problem - but the finance to totally
extinguish the current fires would be truly vast - from the article it can be
learned that efforts according to finances available are being undertaken,
but again the extent of same is as said before really huge. There is little
that can be done to reduce the effect on the local populace - who are without
doubt being very effected - the pollution that obviously results effects us
all ultimately. The fires there have been burning for some 80 years or so,
and are very impressive to say the least. P.graphs prove same. But I must
refer you to the article refered to which gives anyone wishing futher on same
to see the extent of what I say.
Please, please, do not contact the MM with requests for this info., I would,
I know, receive no thanks for this! If you wish info. on this seek those who
receive the magazine & keep copies.
Regards, Bernard
