<< There's an extensive history of women mining,
women mine workers, women who staked their own
claims and broke rocks in the western US written
by a professor of political science at the
University of Las Vegas in Nevada. There is at
least one documented Native American, I believe,
in that book. The book is called A Mine of Her
Own, but I can't remember the author's name right
now. Amazon.com has it. The research was
extensive --- journals and letters included. It
broadens the picture of history quite a bit, and
it's good reading, lively and well written. I
recommend it to all.

The author, Sally S. Zanjani, PHD, Univ. of NV 4360 Slide Mt. Circle Reno
NV 89511 702 851 3042 has created a wonderful document on the
subject. Extensive research and well written. Enough to melt the very hart
of the toughest old Englishman or Scott. (If they have one). Sally is also
immediate past president of the Mining History Association.
