Hi List.
Today's 'Northern Echo' includes an article on the flooding of Littleburn
Colliery which occurred 50 years ago today. The area had over 2 inches of
rain in two days and the flooding of the pit was caused as a result of the
River Browney bursting its banks, uprooting a large tree, and the water
poured through the crater into the mine workings below.
The paper's website is at www.thisisthenortheast.co.uk/news/north.html If
anyone is interested and is unable to see the article on the website please
contact me 'off list' and I will type it out and send it as an attachment.
Alan.
