Dear List Members,
I would like to make medievalists aware of this opportunity. Please
forward this message to other lists to which you are subscribed, or to any
individuals you know who might be interested.
The Wolfsonian Museum at Florida International University offers
fellowships for research utilizing its holdings. FIU is the Miami campus
of the State University System of the State of Florida, and the Wolfsonian
is located on Miami Beach (in the South Beach neighborhood). The
Wolfsonian houses an extraordinary collection of North American and
European decorative, propaganda and fine arts of the 1885-1945 period, as
well as 50,000 rare books (including early tourist guides), with
particular strengths in such areas as the British Arts and Crafts
movement, the German and Austrian Werkstaetten, and Dutch Nieuwe Kunst.
The collection was amassed by its former owner, Mitchell Wolfson, Jr.,
with a particular eye to themes such as the promotion and expression of
Romantic Nationalism. The collection can easily be exploited by scholars
researching the representation and instrumentalization of the European
Middle Ages in both modern Europe and North America, and deserves to be
better known among medievalists interested in Medievalism. The Wolfsonian
awards fellowships to doctoral candidates and to holders of the Ph.D. for
periods ranging from one to six weeks. The fellowships have been offered
annually for several years already; the application deadline for the next
cycle is December 31, 2000 for residency during the academic year
beginning September 1, 2001. Interested scholars can contact the
Wolfsonian-FIU's Research Officer at: [log in to unmask]
Again, please forward this information as widely as you see fit.
