National Museums & Galleries on Merseyside (NMGM) is responsible for the
management of eight institutions containing outstanding collections of
national importance in the areas of art, history and science.
Following the appointment of Edmund Southworth as County Museums Officer
for Lancashire applications are invited from suitable candidates for the
following position based at Liverpool Museum.
HEAD OF COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT & RESEARCH (HUMANITIES), LIVERPOOL MUSEUM
PAYBAND 7, £28,000-£38,740
Liverpool Museum is currently undergoing a £27m refurbishment doubling the
size of the museum. We are seeking an experienced, energetic, curatorial
manager to join our Senior Management Team at this exciting time as Head of
Collections Management and Research (Humanities).
Reporting to the Keeper you will lead a team of Curators and Field
Archaeologists, each of whom has a research specialism, in the management
and development of the Museum's outstanding Antiquities and Ethnology
collections. Your challenge will be to oversee the department's
contribution to NMGM's major capital project, NMGM 2001, principally with
the completion of the World Cultures gallery in summer 2002; to add to and
publish the collections, constantly improve their documentation and storage
and ensure that they are easily accessible to specialists and the general
public.
You will be a graduate or postgraduate, preferably with a professional
Museum qualification, and will have at least five years experience at a
senior curatorial level in a museum with significant collections. You must
be a clear communicator, have proven leadership, organisational and people
management skills and the ability to make a personal academic contribution
to the work of the department.
Pay and progression through the salary range will be based on performance
and the annual negotiated pay award.
