Dear MCG member,
I am contacting you regarding an exciting project that is currently seeking
partners interested in the challenge and potential of new technology for
museums.
Now in its third year, the New Technologies Project is coordinated by the
Department of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester. The Project
allows students to apply skills and ideas learnt upon its MA / MSc and PGDip
programmes to the design, creation and evaluation of a digital resource
intended for a museum setting. As well as engaging with the issues and
processes of product development the project aims to enable students to work
with current museum professionals. Through these partnerships the
Department also looks to maintain and encourage links with museums across
the region, links that it considers vital to providing first-class
professional training.
Running from October to February, and working with an anticipated student
cohort of 80, the Project will this year aim to offer 20 different briefs to
as many project groups - 4 students in each group.
The project provides museums and galleries with an opportunity to work with
informed, creative and ardent postgraduates who invariably offer fresh,
thoughtful and exciting perspectives. Many of the products produced by
groups over the last two years went on to be used by the clients involved,
or provided an important basis for future work.
Even though the ideal clients are those within easy travelling distance of
Leicester (it is best the students can visit the client on more than one
occasion), clients further afield can still be considered if support and
communication can be agreed beforehand.
