Thank you to all those who responded to my question.
Here is a summary of the responses:-
Q: Do people use their intranet to hold their usernames and passwords for
ejournals in order for their staff to access directly to journals?
Yes on the whole libraries are using their intranets to do this. Some have
links through from their web catalogues to their intranets. Alternatively
they have secure sites and their staff have IP access.
There may be problems with global internets so libraries are avoiding puting
on links which would affect their licenses.
Q: Do staff have to contact the library directly to ask them for usernames
and passwords
Where there are a small number of passwords libraries ask staff to contact
them.
Libraries still get contacted if people want access and do not understand
they have to click on links on their web pages also if the links are slow or
fall over.
Q: How do libraries hold them - as spreadsheets in Excel or tables in Word?
Libraries are using either Excel or Word depending on whether they are
putting them up on their intranets or holding the passwords for their
consultation.
Hope this makes sense!
