Dear All,

Now that Valerie has retired I want to take the opportunity
to clarify the relevant JRULM roles and contact personnel
for your information. ( By the way this is quite a long
message so you might want to print it out!)

In general the JRULM Health Sciences Team will be your
main point of contact. The core Team consists of:

myself, Katy Woolfenden, as Faculty Librarian (Medicine
Dentistry Nursing & Pharmacy) and Team Leader

Eleri Strittmatter - Nursing Information Developments
Manager

Alastair Flett - Assistant Librarian - Health Sciences

Sheila Padden - Health Service Management and
Statistics Subject Specialist (in addition to her main roles
as Education Faculty Librarian and JRULM's Staff
Training & Development Officer)

and Diana Leitch - Pharmacy Subject Specialist (in
addition to her role as Assistant Director of JRULM and
Head of Information Resources & Services Division).

A more detailed description of our roles and when and
how you might want to contact each of us is given below:

Katy Woolfenden
Telephone: 0161 275 7386
E-mail: [log in to unmask]

As the Faculty Librarian for Medicine Dentistry Nursing &
Pharmacy and Leader of the Health Sciences Team I am
now the main point of contact for JRULM both within the
Faculty and within the North West Region. As such I am
the person with whom David and his HCLU Team will
negotiate over general JRULM services to your libraries
on a Region wide level, current and future. On a more
local level I have overall responsibility for information
resources and services to the entire Faculty of Medicine
Dentistry Nursing & Pharmacy. I am the main point of
contact for you specifically with regard to JRULM
services in support of the staff and students of Medical or
Dental Schools who might be based, or on placement, at
your sites. In addition, I am aware that many of you are
involved within your local Health Authority Patch Groups
working on FLIS matters and may wish to ask for JRULM
co-operation/ support /involvement in this area; I am also
your main point of contact for matters like this.

Eleri Strittmatter
Nursing Information Developments Manager
Telephone: 0161 275 3720
E-mail: [log in to unmask]

Eleri takes specific responsibility within the Team for
matters relating to the staff and students of the School of
Nursing. This includes the information resources and
services provided at the Main University Library and
Gateway House, as well as all the clinical sites at which
staff and students are based and placed. Those of you
who run libraries at sites with a strong contingent of
University of Manchester Nursing students will already
know who you are and be very familiar with Eleri.
However, it is important to remember that staff and
students from the School can appear / work in many
parts of the Region and so please do feel free to contact
her if you think she can be of any assistance to you.

Alastair Flett
Assistant Librarian (Health Sciences)
Telephone: 0161 275 3675
E-mail: [log in to unmask]

Alastair has a general remit within the Health Sciences
Team to assist me with all aspects of my work but
specifically takes the lion's share of the user education
and training workload relating to the School of Medicine
and Dentistry within the Faculty. He also keeps our
Internet Resources Pages up to date. So if you need
advice on access to and use of electronic resources &
databases or internet sites to help you with a query from
a member of the University of Manchester, please do
contact Alastair.

Sheila Padden
Health Service Management & Health Statistics Subject
Specialist
Telephone: 0161 275 7387
E-mail: [log in to unmask]

Sheila's main responsibilities are as the Education
Faculty Librarian and the JRULM Staff Training &
Development Officer, but because of her extensive Health
Services & Statistics knowledge and experience she is
also a member of the Health Sciences Team. Within the
Team she is responsible for liaison with the Centre for
Healthcare Management at the University and acts as the
subject specialist for queries relating to health statistics.

Diana Leitch
Pharmacy Subject Specialist
Telephone: 0161 275 3737
E-mail: [log in to unmask]

Most of you will know Diana as the Assistant Director of
JRULM and the person who has overall responsibility for
the provision of information resources and services to the
entire University of Manchester. However she has also
been the Pharmacy subject specialist within the library
for the last 20 years by virtue of a PhD in Chemistry and
a Pharmaceutical information background. The School of
Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences was moved from
the Faculty of Science into the Faculty of Medicine
Dentistry & Nursing this summer (hence the new and
lengthy Faculty title!). A by-product of this was that
Diana became the newest member of the Health
Sciences Team. She has a great deal of experience,
knowledge, and contacts in the pharmacy information
world and may be of help to you in dealing with any
queries from Pharmacy staff and students of the
University based at clinical sites or on placement.

Of course, there will also be other more specific points of
contact within JRULM of use to you from time to time.
The main ones are listed below:

Reference & Information Point
(For general queries throughout the library's opening
hours)
Telephone: 0161 275 3751

Document Supply Unit and Distance Learning Service
(David Orman / Joan Lowe)
Telephone: 0161 275 3741

Membership
(Peter Wadsworth)
0161 275 3760

Technical Help Desk
(for technical help with access to and use of JRULM
databases & other JRULM electronic resources - though
for content or training matters you should contact a
member of the Health Sciences Team)
0161 275 7388

I hope that this clarifies matters for you all. However,
please do feel free to contact me if you would like any
further information or are ever in any doubt as to who
might be your appropriate contact person.

Best wishes

Katy

PS I know that some of you are aware of the fact that I
will be going on maternity leave towards the end of the
year. Further information about the cover in place during
my absence will be issued by Diana Leitch nearer the
time. In the meantime don't let that put you off getting in
touch!
