Subject: Library partnerships
Dear Colleagues,
The National Library of Medicine recently asked Dr. Lenny Rhine of the
University of Florida Health Sciences Library to conduct a survey of
North American Library Partnerships with libraries in the poorer parts
of the world as an adjunct to the NLM's international role in medical
and health science knowledge.
Both Lenny and I felt that to include the European experience would be
necessary if all possible ways of helping poorer countries were to be
covered. American and European libraries are different and it is
reasonable to suppose that this affects the culture and means of helping
other libraries. This is why we very much hope that we will get a good
response to our (European) questionnaire which is a modified version of
that sent to North American libraries. It is designed to be simple for you
to answer briefly, with an opportunity at the end for anything further
that you wish to say or expand upon.
If your library is in any way involved with a partnership with a poorer
country, please let me know. I will send you an e-mail or printed
version of the questionnaire to the appropriate address.
Many thanks
Jean Shaw
