Hi All
At last a decent debate!
For those of you that know me you will be aware that I court controversy. I
hope the original questionner (David) was not offended but this topic is of
great interest to me in terms of what I do, teach and research. - Many of
the debates and questions we pose on-line here tend to be dissapated, for
example the 'efficacy of on-line learning'. Even if evidence or research is
cited many sceptics will overlook this based on personal beliefs and
prejudices.
The reason I was so deliberately 'high horse' was to bring members out
either through comment, anger or interest. I seem to have succeeded a
little. Being so deliberately controversial, in some areas has prodded
members to be not only defensive but forthright. My impression of many
academic non members of ILT is that they see members as woolly, soft and too
educationally academic. The tide of this, gladly, is now turning. To me
however membership should be a contributory effort, and our debates,
although interesting, could amount to much more. I find with many academics,
across the sector that even if you provide evidence of the efficacy of
certain educational developments they are still sceptical. Perhaps if, as
members, we can back -up findings with an ILT endorsement we can start to
make in-roads.
I'm glad that many people have responded to David, believe it or not that
was my intention with my response.
Nice to hear from old friends, who slapped my wrist - and good luck David.
Regards
Bob
