Plant Equipment Inc <http://www.peinc.com/> ., a leader in the development
of Emergency Response Systems (911) is looking for a Systems
Engineer/Systems Architect to join its growing team. Systems Engineers
perform and lead in the system architecture and design efforts associated
with product development. This includes generating system-level
specifications and leading the effort to evaluate and adopt new
technologies.

Responsibilities include:

R&D: Works with design and test engineers during integration and test
efforts associated with specific projects. Tests future technologies and
conceptual ideas. Tests ideas/concepts of feature upgrades to existing
products

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT: Acts as the main systems architect for all new
projects/products. Acts as the overall technical lead for the project.
Provides technical expertise for the resolution of complex problems. This
could involve in-depth analysis including the use of sophisticated analysis
tools. Participates in the generation of market requirements documents.
Assists the Marketing department by supporting feasibility studies and
cost/schedule estimates on new projects/products. Generates system-level
specifications and designs, participates in the generation of detailed
design documents. Plays a key role in developing the "road map" for future
products and technologies. Proposes, initiates and runs R&D efforts and
feasibility studies for new product concepts. Participates in design reviews
and/or code reviews to ensure compliance to specified requirements.
Participates in test plan reviews to ensure compliance to specified
requirements.

CLIENT INTERACTION: Periodically meets with customers and potential
customers to discuss market requirements. Supports Beta testing and provides
phone support to other employees that have been deployed to the field to
directly support Beta trials. Works closely with Marketing and Account Execs
and Consultants to establish market requirements.

STANDARDS, BENCHMARKS, AND CERTIFICATIONS: Ensures overall product integrity
and validates it against the market requirements.

SCHEDULING: Works with Project and Product Line Managers in developing
schedule elements regarding the efforts associated with specification
generation. Provides input to the Project and Product Line Managers
regarding scheduling inputs from other functional areas.

BUDGETING/COSTING: Works with Project and Product Line Managers in
developing costing estimates associated with specification generation.
Provides input to the Project and Product Line Managers regarding costing
inputs from other functional areas.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 3-5+ years of recent experience in systems
engineering-related work including specification generation, system-level
design, trade studies, and risk management. 3-5+ years of recent detailed
design experience (architecting software systems/products for the Windows NT
operating system, design work with high-speed or programmable hardware
components, etc.). A BSEE or BSCS or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Expert in Windows NT/2000 and 95 and/or other client-server and
peer-to-peer network PC-based operating systems. Experience with database
design and access mechanisms. Experience with networked systems based on the
TCP and IP protocols. Experience developing diagrams and models based on
UML. Strong communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the
ability to work in a team environment as well as independently are required.
The ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide
range of intellectual and practical problems, and the ability to work
independently without direct supervision is also required.
