High-pressure metamorphic rocks record conditions at destructive
plate boundaries. Due to the intertwining roles of kinetics and
fluids on reaction, these rocks commonly preserve records of their
pre- and post-peak metamorphic histories. This allows inferences to
be made about plate boundary processes. Many studies of high-pressure
rocks are actively being conducted in Europe in connection with
broader studies of the Caledonian, Variscan and Alpine Orogens. We
will be particularly interested in contributions from these and other
orogens that emphasize mutual contributions of petrological,
structural and geochronological studies to the understanding of
processes at destructive plate boundaries.
