Ed,
I totally agree with your comments, but just how big is this thesaurus going
to be?
Ideally, to avoid accusations of bias we need to adopt an inclusive approach
and take account of so called "alternative histories". For example in the
Historic Period Class List events such as the Peasant's Revolt, or those
relating to the Diggers, the Tolpuddle Martyrs, Chartists, Suffragettes, the
General Strike and the formation (and destruction) of the Welfare State
could be regarded as more relevant than say the Battle of Crecy or the
Falklands War.
Resources will dictate that at some point a decision will need to be made as
to what include and what to leave out. This will be a political minefield
(and I for one thought the Kings and Queens wouldn't be too
controversial!!).
In the meantime can I propose the aforementioned as the first Historic
Period candidate terms?
