It seems our 'computer literate twelve-year old' will now speak a different
language. For the 2001 national curriculum tests the Qualifications and
Curriculum Authority are saying that:
"Questions in the key stage 3 science tests will conform to international
agreements on scientific nomenclature, for example the spelling of fetus and
sulfate." [for foetus and sulphate]
See http://www.qca.org.uk/ca/tests/ara/ks3_subject_information.asp (near the
bottom of the page).
Key Stage 3 = 11--14 year olds.
