John,
Some of these dates (Iron Age in Britain beginning 600 BC came as
somewhat of a surprise given CBA Research Report No.81 published 1992.
This shows at Droitwich in the West Midlands, finds dated as follows:
"Possible late Bronze Age to Iron Age" with a Radio Carbon date of
1045-838 BC. The description reads:
"The radio carbon date was derived from residual material indicated by
the presence of Iron Age pottery (briquetage and charcoal as minor
components), but suggests activity on the site during the late Bronze
Age."
Only a small portion of this site was excavated and, thus earlier
activity may be more extensive than indicated by these minor components
on this limited dig.
Incorporating Roman finds into Iron Age dates seems highly
questionable given the cultural changes that were introduced and the
major changes that took place!
