Just a few ideas of the top of my head.

>Another controversial issue that comes up in the discussion of sustainable

Allegation?? if it is not economic growth and development then what is the
root cause of environmental degradation.
>There is little evidence for such a position. Moreover, it tends to be

Is it not generally true that countries with low levels of per capita income
live in a more sustainable way than developed countries in terms of
unnecessary use of resources. Although the environmental effect are more
obvious due to less regulation and lack of finance. The question is weather
the environmental effects due to lack of regulation outweigh the sustainable
way of life.
>Second, the "taste" for a cleaner environment
>tends to be associated with higher per capita incomes. It is only at

>environment and greater attention to sustainability issues.
If so explain U.S.A's reluctance to sign global environmental treaties. But
higher per capita incomes lead to a less sustainable life style i.e.. demand
for resources. Therefore the need for reduction or halting in economic
growth in order to reduce the use resources is a must.
Third,
economic growth provides the means by which environmental and
sustainability issues can be addressed. Thus, given that the world's
population seems to grow inexorably, the only alternative seems to be to
promote ecnomic development in sustainable ways, not to forego economic
growth." (Page 16)
economic development is sustainable ways is one way forward but it still
Leeds to increases in the use of resources so how is economic development in
a sustainable way possible.
Although the fact remains that it is fundamentally unfair to prevent growth
in LDC when the DC have already reached a high living standard. It is the
DC that need to halt or reverse economic growth in order to let the LDC
achieve the same living standard. This reverse in economic growth can be
balanced by the economic growth in LDC. Therefore achieving some sort of
sustainability.
