In the "wild" chimpanzees hunt and eat red colobus monkeys
I suppose you will now tell us that gorillas are omnivorous. If you are
suggesting that we look to other species and take the lowest common
denominator for our "ethics" then I guess that cannibalism, rape, polygamy,
general annihilation of everything in our site and marking our territory with
urine, all would be admirable goals to pursue. If we were really serious
about ethics we would take the most noble compassionate behavior to make our
society a more ethical one. After all isn't "ethics" what this list is about?
This list almost seems like a bunch of industrialists at a seminar searching
for loopholes. The only reason I stay is that is so much room for improvement,
(ask me why I remain in the United States). Look at other primates who
actually starved to death rather than pushing a button that they first learned
brought food but later learned brought electric shocks to others. Compare the
"ethics" of the experimenters with those of the "subjects". Compare the
gorilla who saved the life of a child fallen into her prison, to a Dr. David
White who casually cuts heads off of monkeys and practices sewing them back on
again. For what? Immortality? We all are going to die early, (in the next
decade) or late (in a few more decades). Why practice evil for a few extra
years? We need to look honestly in the mirror and admit that we have been
tyrannical, anthropocentric and individually egocentric.
