What if's are for the most part a general waste of time, imho. We have no
knowledge of Budiansky doing any of these things you have posited.
Further, (my turn for a waste of time what if) what if it were a Prof. who
had strong "environmentalist" views and he was on the look out for
students who were sympathetic towards market based economies?
You see John, your "sword" can cut both ways on this one. Further, AFAIK
all the speculation about Budiansky being on the look out for students
whose views he dislikes is just that speculation.
