Steve, I don't know if I can agree with this point.
It seems kind of odd, a hunter who understands hunting,
would not use the meat or animal? Wouldn't that
just be killing for the sake of killing, and would
that not be just as unethical? Or are you just saying
they don't need the animal, but have some intent
for the hunt?
Clarify please?

A hunter who kills animals casually, without respect or regard, or out of a desire to dominate the animal, or the pathological desire to kill something, is obviously acting unethically. A hunter who acts from the point of knowledge and respect, who conducts themselves heroically and with a full understanding of the implications of their actions is probably ethical, whether or not they "need" the meat for survival.
