Good for you Ben. It's always bugged me that people, some anyway, take Rand
(a second rate science fiction writer) as a philosopher. I saw "Battlefield
Earth" last night, Hubbard and the Scientologists are, IMO, cut from the
same cloth. The movie, not very good by the way, is almost racist in nature.
Although the Psychlos (John Travolta) are rabid capitalists, they can't
stand up to good old fashion American virtue and bravery.
The implication that if you critisize capitalism and/or question technology
in anyway, you are a lunatic has always plauged the environmental movement.
Naess and his group even lable "appropriate technology" as a problem.
Technology is not the problem, but it's not the solution either.
I don't have time to rave on today, got a report to write.

Excuse me, I have to gag. Rand was NOT a philosopher, though she may have
claimed as much. She couldn't get her political theories straight in any
of her work. I teach her to my undergrads, but that's only because she
makes a terrific punching bag.
Phew. Sorry. Anyway, interesting post. Thanks.
