Okay, I see I need to me more obvious in my comments. The point is that
most solar power panels only work during the day, and work best on
cloudless days. In So. Cal., there was a big push a few decades ago for
renewables such as solar, winde, etc. However, the assumption was that
the price of oil would be $100 per barrel. This doesn't mean research
into renewables is a not desirable, but pushing them today would be rather
costly, IMO.

You'd need lots of panels. Lots of them. What about a facility that
operates only during the day, but sucks in upto 500 kW?
