Hi Emma,
There is one form of power that make put Steve Verdon out of job down there
at the coal burning plant he works at. That is geothermal power.
It works really easily. All you do is tap into and exploit the heat that is
found in the water mains that serve each building or house in the city. This
heat can be used to cool buildings in the summer and reduce cooling costs by
70 %, and heat buildings in the winter and also reduce heating costs by 70 %.
The heat exchangers may be centrally located or located in individual rooms.
The heat and the power saved come from the water in the municipal mains.
There is one little catch though. Since the water that is used in the heat
exchanger is water used for drinking some local public health authorities
will not approve the use of water for this purpose. But that is easy to
solve. We can do two things:
(1) install two water mains; or
(2) pre-test the exchangers to ensure that they do not impact drinking water
(there is no reason to believe that they would impact drinking water quality
anyway).
Think big before you think small, or if that does not help, then think small
and then think big,
