Géotechnique Symposium
Ground & Soil Improvement
to be held on Tuesday 6 February 2001 at 9.30 - 17.30
At The Institution of Civil Engineers, Great George Street,
Westminster, London SW1P 3AA
The 2000 Géotechnique Symposium in Print appeared in the December
issue of the journal. It is proposed to hold a meeting to allow
authors to present highlights of their papers, and to allow informal
discussion and questions to be raised by the audience. The meeting and
discussion will be introduced by two Keynote speakers, Dr Andrew
Charles of the Building Research Establishment, and Dr Alan Bell of
Keller Ground Engineering.
The Symposium in Print has generated a strong international interest
with topics ranging from vibro stone columns, dynamic compaction,
surcharging and the use of band drains, to vacuum preloading and
explosive compaction. The papers vary between theoretical and those of
a more practical nature with a number of well documented case
histories.
The meeting will be an ideal opportunity to bridge the divide between
theory and practice in an extremely important area of geotechnical
engineering.
Attendance at the meeting will be free and is open to all subscribers
to Géotechnique, members of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the
British Geotechnical Association and other related societies. Further
information will be circulated at a later date by the Journals
Department of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Tel: 020 7 665 2240
