Dear whale and dolphin - enthusiast and ECS-member,
here we want to offer the following course:
SIX-DAY COURSE IN THE UNDERWATERSOUND-LAB:
INTRODUCTION INTO THE ACOUSTIC REPERTOIRES OF WHALES AND DOLPHINS
AND THEORETICAL CONCEPTS CONCERNING THE ACOUSTIC COMMUNICATION
SYSTEMS OF CETACEANS
The aim of the german-speaking and six days lasting course is to get to know
acoustic repertoires of selected toothed and baleen whales species. The
species - specific acoustic communication systems will be understood and
integrated with respect to existing marine mammal communication theories. Daily
courses are the framework and will provide all participants with theoretical
background. Each participant receives a reader with a specific topic
in advance which he/she is going to read and prepare beforehand. The worldwide
unique underwatersound - lab provides the opportunity for each participant to
hear original recordings of cetacean sound sequences while floating in a water
pool. Each participant can make a picture of what he/she has learned during the
morning lesson. Mostly 'dry' bioacoustical and oceanographical facts become more
transparent and easier to understand.
The course will take place in Bad Sulza which is located near Erfurt and Jena in
Thüringen, Germany. The costs of the course are DM 1.000,- per person (plus 16%
MwSt). The course will take place from 18.06.2000 to 24.06.2000. The number of
participants is reduced to 12 persons. Further informations, written in german,
can be obtained from me, the contact is given below. For a registration send an
e-mail, give a call or send a fax/letter.
Yours
