Dear all,
There are two important changes to tell you about.
First, the mailbase operation is changing location and software.
It is moving from here in Newcastle to Manchester and is moving over
to Listserv software. This will all happen over the weekend of the
25/26th November.
* AS A LIST MEMBER YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING, YOUR DETAILS WILL
BE TRANSFERRED AUTOMATICALLY.*
The main change you will notice is to the address,
lists will be @jiscmail.ac.uk rather than @mailbase.ac.uk
So, for example, dea-health will be:
[log in to unmask]
The address of the www sites for lists will also change.
Each publicly available JISCmail list will have a web page at:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/LISTNAME.html
where LISTNAME is the name of the list.
So, for example, dea-health will be:
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/dea-health.html
My advice would be to start using the new address and www pages
straight after the change over. The current mailbase software will
continue to operate for a few months to forward messages/commands on
to jiscmail automatically, but the current www pages at mailbase will
not be updated, the new jiscmail pages will be.
More details on all of this can be found in the new jiscmail user
guide at:
http://www.mailtest.jiscmail.ac.uk/user-manual/user-manual.htm
A summary of the most commonly used commands is at the end of this
message. If you have any queries about the jiscmail changeover please
refer to their user guide.
The second change to tell you about is less important, but will
affect the way you contact me. As I'm moving jobs at the end of this
month it is very important that if you want to contact me as list
owner after the jiscmail changeover you email me at:
[log in to unmask]
Emailing me at my address here in Newcastle will not get to me after
20th November. While I'm moving (which coincides with the software
changeover) David Parkin (HESG list owner) will help out by being a
list owner, for which I'm very grateful. (He can be contacted at the
-request addresses.)
Finally, if you have anything urgent for the list (jobs,
announcements, discussion points etc) I suggest you send it before
November 20th. Although we've been promised the software changeover
will be smooth, sometimes these things don't go according to plan. As
a consequence I suggest leaving the lists as quiet as possible from
20th November - 4th December in case anything goes astray.
Cheers for now,
Bruce Hollingsworth (list owner)
