Call for proposals from Young European Researchers in Media and Environment
In the framework of the "Media and Sustainable Development" programme the
European University on Environment and its partners will be promoting the
best theses/part-theses written on subjects related to Media and the
Environment. The research students will be asked to send a 5-page summary of
their work to the European University on Environment. These will then be
publicised as outlined below (see Actions).
Objectives
* to collect, support and promote excellence in social and
communications science research in the field of media and the environment in
Europe,
* to publicise this work among the relevant players,
* to provide promising researchers with a stage on which to promote
their work,
* to encourage contacts, information exchange and cooperation between
individual researchers and institutions,
* to encourage research on major problems related to the media and the
environment,
* to channel interdisciplinary research into practical, real-life
solutions.
Actions
The thesis/part-thesis summaries will be distributed in French and
English with contact details of the authors and their institutions, to 500
of the EUE's contacts in the fields of the media and sustainable development
in Europe :
* in the form of a CD-Rom,
* in the form of an internal journal which will be given to
participants of the activities of the "Media and Sustainable Development"
programme of the EUE and its partners. Training sessions, audio-visual
news-reporting competition, European Meetings etc.,
* the authors will be invited to the 2000 edition of the European
Meetings on "Media and Sustainable Development" and will present their
findings to the other researchers and public. Lodging and food will be
provided,
* on the EUE's Internet site : www.uee.org.
Conditions
For the 2000 edition, the promotion applies to all works which were produced
between 1 January 1997 and 31st December 1999. The participating students
must submit a summary of their thesis/part-thesis findings to the EUE by
July 31st 2000 on PC disk or by e-mail. The EUE reserves the right to use
the summary for the duration of the programme "The Media and Sustainable
Development" with full acknowledgement given to the authors.
Specifications
The summary must include the following:
Title page : title, coordinates, thesis supervisor, institution
Page 1 : problematic & methodology
Page 2-3 : résumé
Page 4 : conclusions & recommendations
The title page must include the title of the thesis, the author's name, the
degree, the place of study and the name(s) of the Thesis Adviser(s). The
whole, including the title page, must not exceed 5 pages.

The main contributors to this initiative are the European University on
Environment and the partners of the "Media and Sustainable Development"
programme.
