Dear All,
The last event of this academic year takes place in the Jamaica Blue
Mountain Coffee Shop in London. The venue is relaxing, the coffee is the
best in the world and the speakers are interesting. All are welcome. Hope to
see some of you there
Amanda
The Future of Montserrat and its People
Since the first rumblings of the Soufriere Hills volcano in Montserrat in
July 1995, the island has experienced several major pyroclastic flows,
complete destruction of the southern and eastern sections of the island
(including the capital city Plymouth), and the relocation of approximately
two-thirds of the island population either to other Caribbean islands, the
UK or North America. Nearly five years after the first eruption, our
speakers will touch upon aspects of the crisis, focusing on the future of
the island and its inhabitants.
Speakers include:
* Polly Patullo (journalist and author of the book 'Fire from the
Mountain',
* Gertrude Shott (Institute of Education)
* Martin Lever (University of Manchester)
* Janice Panton (Montserrat Government Office)
* Jane Furlonge and Daniel Daley (Montserrat Overseas People's
Progressive Alliance)
Venue: Jamaica Blue Coffee Shop
18 Maddox Street,
London.
Time: 7.00pm - 9.00pm
All Welcome
