Approx text of Introduction to Tim Atkins at svp 13/6/2000
For ages, I've wanted Tim Atkins to read at SVP; but it's only now that
we've managed to find a night that suits SVP and suits Tim.
Among the many things going on in Tim's recent poetry, one thing in
particular has held my attention every time I have heard him read: his use
of silences.
In mechanical terms, it may be that he is doing much the same thing each
time; but the effects he produces are anything but repetitious.
Each time I have heard Tim read it has been a relatively short reading, but
I have been excited and really astonished at the range of *kinds of silence
he has achieved; and the range of use within the poems to which he has put
silences.
In Tim Atkins' poems, as you are about to hear, silence is so much more than
not speaking.

The introduction to Stephen Rodefer consisted of quotations from Brian
Stefans' review of "Mon Canard", the full text of which can be found at the
SVP website - go to "Documenting SVP Readings 2000" and click on Mr
Rodefer's name

The website was down again this week. Apologies for that. Possible solution
of sorts is under consideration
