I learned and passed in a Nissan Sunny.
Our first car - when I wasn't driving - was an acid green Chrysler Alpine
which gave sterling service - as opposed to stirling moss service - on many
long journeys between Sheffield and Whitstable in Kent. The radio didn't
work, the heater didn't work, the front passenger door could only be opened
from the outside, neither of the rear doors could be opened from the inside,
the rear view mirror would reguarly fall off the windscreen and have to be
reattached with superglue. In fact the car seemed to attract ludicrous
incidents as in we once got stuck somewhere because while fumbling for
change for a parking meter one of us managed to get a 50p lodged under the
handbrake so we couldn't take the brake 'off'! After a year, the car finally
had to be driven to the scrapyard. We got 25 quid for it.
After I passed my test and while I was still working at my industrial 'day
job' I drove company cars: Ford Sierra and Renault Laguna.
Want I want to drive is those Japanese cars which used to have model names
like Stanza and Sonnet - can't remember the make.
In fact, I think we should have a thread imagining appropriate cars for
famous poets - what does our Laureate drive I wonder? Or maybe some poets
have got names that sound like they ought to be cars - anyone want to come
for a spin in my new Vauxhall Caddel?! [Arf! Arf!]
cheers
David
PS Sorry, it's too early in the morning...
