Yes, I'd be grateful if someone would post a few parallel extracts from the
relevant translations. The one I know is the Edwin Morgan, which I like;
I'm sorry to hear that it's been omitted from his collected translations. --
Concerning Chaucer modernizations there's an interesting section of Douglas
Oliver's book on poetry & narrative in performance that does a comparison of
a few different versions of Chaucer to show that Coghill's version is
perhaps the best in terms of preserving the sound of the original (he does
this by comparing voicing patterns). --N
