Hi all,
I've been silent for some time but enjoying your discussions. My own work
has been developing on wood and hoof - thanks again to Julian for setting me
off on that pathway, eight years ago now!. It has proved fascinating and we
now have lots of ideas about structure / property relationships in materials
with fibres in 3 dimensions. The fact that composite aeroplane wings are
effectively hand made - using hairdriers and sewing machines worries me
somewhat and nature has certainly got the edge on 3d composites! If anyone
is interested the latest results will appear in Advanced Composite Letters
in the next few months.
I'm also interested in your discussions on TRIZ. We are conducting research
into creativity in engineering at Imperial College and would be fascinated
to talk further to any of you who also look into this area, especially where
biologically inspired. Simon Dewulf and I are currently hosting a web based
Forum on Creativity in the Engineering Curriculum
http://www.ijee.dit.ie/forum/forum1.html and would welcome your input.
best wishes
Caroline
