Dear Researcher,
I write to ask for your assistance in evaluating the outcome of BOOKHAD,
a web based project providing support for researchers in book history
and book design.
BOOKHAD aims to provide researchers with access to a web interface which
will bring together records and relevant information from six major
holding libraries in the areas of book history and book design. It will
be made available to the research community in this field, regardless of
their institutional affiliation, through search tools on the world wide
web. It is funded by the Research Support Libraries Programme (RSLP)
until December 2001.
BOOKHAD is led by The London Institute, and has partners at Reading
University, Manchester Metropolitan University, Napier University, the
St. Bride Printing Library and the University of London Library.
I am looking for people like you, who have knowledge of the subject of
book history and book design, and will be able to provide me with
informed and considered feedback on the development of BOOKHAD. The
advantage to you is that you have the opportunity to comment on the
development of a resource which will, ultimately, be useful for your
research.
I would like you to spend couple of hours testing BOOKHAD, during an
eight week trial period between January and March 2001, using a
evaluation form which I will provide. This will supply me with feedback
on the look and feel and ease of use of the interface which I can
collate and analyse to provide recommendations for the Developers, who
will make improvements. There will be one further short evaluation
period of three weeks in October 2001, when the final version of BOOKHAD
will be tested before it is accepted.
If you would like to be involved in this opportunity to evaluate a
developing resource, please complete the slip below, and return it to
me. I will send you further details of the evaluation in time for the
January start.
In advance, many thanks for your assistance in this work.
