A Mine of Information - RSLP-funded project
Project Manager
The University of Wales Swansea is the lead institution in a new RSLP-funded
project entitled "A Mine of Information: Cataloguing the South Wales
Coalfield". This project aims to improve access to research resources
relating to the South Wales Coalfield, by creating online catalogue records
for relevant material located in partner institutions, holding the records
in EAD and MARC databases at UWS, and enabling cross-searching of these by
the end-user via the Web.
We are seeking a dynamic Project Manager to lead this project, including
managing the three other project staff (two archivists and one librarian),
and liaising closely with archive and library staff at UWS and partner
institutions. The manager will ensure the consistency and quality of
records produced by project staff, and will take responsibility for the
evaluation and dissemination of the project within the HE and archive
sectors.
Applicants should be graduates with a postgraduate qualification in archives
administration, and at least three years of post-qualification experience in
archive management. Applicants should have a practical understanding of the
issues relating to the creation of electronic records for archival material;
a knowledge of EAD would be desirable but is not a pre-requisite for this
post.
This is a fixed-term appointment for the lifetime of the project until 31st
July 2002. We would be happy to consider applications from candidates who
might be seeking secondment from another post, or who might wish to discuss
options for undertaking the work on a part-time basis. We do however
consider that a minimum of three days per week (or equivalent) is necessary
to manage the project to the required standard.
The salary will be at an appropriate point on the Administrative, Library
and Computer Grade 3 scale, £26,216 to £30,967 p.a.
