The discussion concerning regional meetings is quite interesting (at least from this side of the pond). For those of you who are still at work (considering the slew of out of office replies I just received) I thought I would shower you with info about regional meetings here in the colonies. (If there is a Canadian subscribed they can describe their situation)
Anyway
Here in the States we have the several regional archival organizations as well as the national one.
Regionals are the following:
MARAC - Mid-Atlantic Regional Archivists Conference
SSA - Society of Southwest Archivists
MAC - Midwest Archives Conference
NEA - New England Archivists
SRMA - Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists
and numerous local ones. Click on this link

Needless to say each regional org has an annual meeting. The SSA covers Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico and Louisiana. Recently they held their regional meeting in Louisiana several archivists from New Mexico were in attendance.
ARMA International (www.arma.org) has regions that are made up of chapters in cities or locales. Each chapter has a monthly meeting either lunch or dinner as well as presenting seminar in the spring.
In October ARMA's annual conference will be in Las Vegas and I will be attending (3 time zones away). I have flown from Richmond, Va to Houston Texas in to make a presentation -- all in one day.
Now IMNSHO I think that regional meetings of archivists/records managers in the UK would be easy to attend, but then what does a poor relation like me know :-)
Do check out some of the regional US websites.
