Without knowing Janette personally, or the circumstances behind the NT's
decision to part with her services, one can only say that one is very sorry to
hear this news. But is there a wider issue which the profession should address
- should a major organisation in the heritage field be allowed to think it
simply doesn't need to bother about archives, without being corrected on the
matter? I recall a similar issue arising in Cambridge some years ago, when one
of the Colleges decided they no longer needed professional archival services.
Perhaps a national officer of the Society of Archivists might like to contribute
a note?
