Dear Ingo,
The hot-coated pieces I have examined are all rein-rings from bronze
plated iron horse bits. The microstructures show clearly that the iron
has been in contact with molten bronze. The rings are of a size that
could be dipped in contemporary crucibles. Other techniques may have
been developed for larger objects but they have not come my way.
Yours,
Peter
