I thought the entry of Israel into Canaan was around 1400-1200 BC. I have
recently been surprised to notice references to iron in Numbers and
Deuteromony (part of the Penteteuch and probably dating from the period
before the conquest) and Joshua which deals with the conquest period. This
surprised me as I thought I had understood that iron smelting came from a
later period, or is this evidence of anachronism? I take a conservative
view on the dating of these texts, but am willing to believe that Joshua
was not written down until the time of Davis or Solomon around 1000 BC.
I think I may have missed out on the beginning of this correspondence.
