Dear David,
There is a problem with a pile-up (of I forget which line) which
simulates a Cd peak; I stumbled into this problem when first doing
PIXE of gold. 1%, though, seems a little large for it; in our
experience the peak usually was equivalent to 0.2-0.4% Cd. I have my
own worries with Cd in gold. One case is a gold attachment to a silver
figure; the figure appears to be perfectly authentic but the gold
contains 64ppm Cd which seems more than any reasonable natural level.
