The European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC)
is an international non profit organization whose aims are to promote
and co-ordinate clinical cancer research in Europe. The ultimate goal of
the EORTC is to improve the standard of cancer treatment by facilitating
the translation of scientific discoveries into state-of-the-art
treatment. These aims are achieved through the multinational
multidisciplinary efforts of scientists, clinicians and social
scientists across Europe.
The EORTC Quality of Life Unit has a vacancy for a:
Statistician in Quality of Life Research (m/f)
The EORTC Data Center provides data management, computer, statistical
and medical expertise to the EORTC clinical cooperative groups at a
central site located in Brussels and works in collaboration with a
network of 2000 investigators distributed in more than 350 institutions,
mostly in Europe.
The position involves the chance to use innovative approaches for the
analysis of heath related quality of life data from oncology patients.
The post requires the statistician to develop, manage and analyse
databases built up by pooling health related quality of life data
collected alongside and outside EORTC clinical trials. The research
fields embrace influence of cross cultural differences and linguistic
similarities, impact of sociodemographic factors, disease sites and
staging. The position offers a unique opportunity to apply statistical
and data mining methods to analysis of complex data sets.
The successful candidate will ideally have a degree in a statistical
discipline and ones years work experience would be preferable. A good
command of modern statistical computing methods including SAS, is
ideally required along with knowledge of other informational systems. A
strong background in/or experience in database mining is a major plus.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the
ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment are required
