OPEN-LEVEL POSITION
The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability at UCSB has an
opening in Statistics, appointment possible at any level, with salary
and rank dependent on qualifications: specialization in Statistical
Methodology or Applied Statistics is preferred, but other specializations
in Statistics and Applied Probability will be considered. Starting date
July 1 2001. Requirements are Ph.D. in Statistics and demonstrated excellence
in both research and teaching.

however, position will remain open until filled.
The Department of Statistics and Applied Probability was created in 1989,
and has developed a broad range of interests. Faculty interests currently
include Bayesian computation, bootstrap methods, comparison of experiments,
directional data analysis, functional data analysis, goodness-of-fit methods,
heavy-tailed stochastic models, likelihood analysis, massive data sets and
retrieval algorithms, multi-dimensional scaling, nonparametric modelling,
random fields, smoothing spline methods, stochastic models in finance, and
time series.
The Department offers courses leading to Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. degrees.
At present there are about thirty undergraduate majors (several emphasising
actuarial science) and thirty graduate students.
