Our temporary course list contains 34 students who have never appeared
on any SLC listing at any stage.
We have had another case of a student where the fees had not been paid
because we had not confirmed attendance and we had not confirmed
attendance because they had never been on an attendance report. The line
I got this time was that ' it would be referred to out I.T. people as
this appears to be a common problem'
We are chasing significant numbers of students where fees have not been
paid and it is going to be frustrating if it turns out the majority of
them have disappeared into some SLC 'black hole'. It will also do little
to our relationship with those students who will not realise where the
fault lies.
Are we going to see some compensation for this both for the loss of
interest on the income we receive 6 months late and for the considerable
administative burden being added ? It would be nice to think that
someone somewhere would have the grace to apologise rather than issue
platitudes about understanding the difficulties people face.
And if anyone from the SLC reads this, it is not a go at the people on
the hei helpline who, in my experience, have always been very helpful.
