At Cambridge the names are read out by one of the Esquire Bedells, who are
ceremonial officers.

Subject: Graduation
Who do other universities use to read out students' names at
graduation ceremonies? At Nottingham the Dean of the relevant
faculty reads from an amended version of the programme, but there
can be problems with the pronunciation of some names. I'm
particularly interested if you use someone external to the University.
Also, I've seen the archive correspondence from Nov 98 on whether
Universities invite certificate students to attend awards ceremonies,
but I wondered if the situation has changed much since then? At
Nottingham we now invite Diploma students to ceremonies, but not
certificate students.
Thanks for any help!
