I don't think the problem is confined to scientists. At an OECD meeting
recently, a senior British civil servant dismissed the protests against the
World Trade Organisation in Seattle. He said that those who thought that
public opposition could undermine globalisation were "over-interpreting a
few broken windows".
Interestingly, the politicians present, whose job (in part) is to understand
the public, tended to disagree.
