Leif Bårdstu, who wrote the other week asking about
the Bede Metal and Chemical Co Ltd and Hebburn
Works, is very grateful for the information that list
members sent him.
In Norwegian Archives he has found that (some of)
the overseas mines of the Bede were managed by the
engineering firm Delprat & Carr. Were they well
known mining engineers and managers ?
Percy Carr, the co-owner, came from a Spanish Mine
and started the works at the Killingdal Mine in
Norway in 1895. The next manager, Thomas
Longmoore, also came from a Spanish Mine. Some
years later Percy Carr appears to have been
managing a mine in Mexico. His younger brother,
Richard, was manager of Killingdal a short time
in 1919.
In Cordoba [Spain], the company was called Hall,
Delprat, Ferdinand & Carr before 1896. A
representative named Smith visited a lot of
Norwegian mines trying to find out if they could be
interesting investments. He would be very thankful
for any information on these firms.
