For the information.The two flues are very large that exited from the old
smelt mill they lead into a even larger flue which crosses under the Reeth
to Tan Hill road.The distance being only about 50 metres at the most, were
it runs into the more uniform size i.e the ones that can be seen at Grinton,
Old Gang and Surrender. I now intend to do a project on this subject as
suggest by Mike Gill. So any other details will be appreciated.
Ps. Robert Clough in his book says that waste water from the mill was
carried in an arched culvert six feet high. Is this culvert still there? or
is it the Smelt Mill Level I looked at the other day.
