Many of you will be aware that Mailbase will shortly become defunct and
this list will be transferred to a new service called JISCMail. I can do
no better than reproduce Paul Miller's notice about this change from another
list, viz.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The service continues to be funded and supported by the Joint Information
Systems Committee of the United Kingdom's Higher and Further Education
Funding Councils.
This transfer is due to take place over the weekend of 25/26 November, with
messages sent over that period queued up and mailed on the 27th when the new
service goes live.
Details of the transition are available at
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/docs/transition.htm.
DON'T PANIC!!!
- Messages sent to the old address ([log in to unmask])
will continue
to be routed for you... probably for at least six months.
- Any commands you send to [log in to unmask] will also be routed
to the new address for you.
- Mail archives and web pages at www.mailbase.ac.uk/ will be transferred
to JISCMail. Copies of the Mailbase web site at the time of transition
will be maintained at their original URLs for some months, meaning that
we don't need to change all of our links to pages overnight. We *will*
need to start gradually changing these, though.
WHAT TO DO...
As soon as possible AFTER 27 November users should
- Start sending messages to [log in to unmask] instead
of [log in to unmask]
- Start sending commands to [log in to unmask] instead of the
current [log in to unmask]
- Review any mail filters or rules you may have on incoming emails.
Those which work on messages to this list will need to be
changed from [log in to unmask] to
[log in to unmask]
- Reset any bookmarks in your web browsers which relate to Mailbase
web pages (www.mailbase.ac.uk/) to the appropriate page at
JISCmail (www.jiscmail.ac.uk/).
- Alter any web pages you maintain which refer to this mailing
list or messages in its list archives. Although old messages will continue
to be available on the Mailbase website for about six months, no new messages
sent after 26 November will appear there.
Finally, don't panic if you forget to use the new addresses; commands and
messages will be re-routed for you for about six months.
I shall send a similar message on the 27th, just to remind you that the
change has taken place.
If you have any queries, please get in touch.
