Very many thanks to all those who kindly responded to my recent query about
collections of dress and knitting patterns.
Library collections in the UK include BL Newspaper Library at Colindale with
copyright deposit files of patterns, National Art Library at the V&A,
National Library of Scotland, and the Costume Research Centre in Bath.
Southampton University Library has the Montse Stanley Knitting Collection
with many books, journals and patterns. The collection is strong in Spanish
as well as British material.
The Museum of London has about 900 paper patterns mainly from 1920s-80s.

Glasgow Caledonian University has a collection of Home Front items including
WW2 patterns.
There's a lot on the Web of course but do look at Chris Bacon's site
Yesterknits , www.yesterknits.com Yesterknits has the 'largest collection
of vintage knitting and crochet patterns in the world' It's worth checking
for the picture library of pattern covers. Chris Bacon has opened a combined
library and museum just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh (Tel: 0131-556-3436,

The Knitting and Crochet Guild has a library of patterns Details from Jan
Andrews (01994-448430). The Guild's web page is at

Michelle Lee has a good site at www.oldpatterns.com There are lots of links
