For quick-and-dirty tests I like the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg adaptive
step algorithm as given in Chapter 5 of Paul deVries "A First Course in
Computational Physics", Wiley 1994. It is fifth order.
However, in many cases other initial value methods may prove more
efficient as previous correspondents have noted.
