Subject: Regional meetings
Sorry to interupt on the current debate but I`d like to say something further o
n Sarah`s comment about regional secretaries not being telepathic. When I took
on the role of secretary for the Southern Region I was eager to encourage more
debate on current issues at each meeting. However, even when I have gone to t
he extra trouble of arranging speakers (and take heed, at Saturday`s A.G.M ther
e are three extremely useful speakers going to be there) attendance is quite po
or for the size of the region. I would be only too eager to know what members
would liketo take place at the meetings but when I have asked (and spent a lot
of time `phoning around) the responses are useful, but few and far between. I
know that it is quite difficult for some people to make meetings and the sheer
geographical size of the region does not help, but why should secretaries go to
extraordinary lengths to arrange speakers when members do not turn up? Current
issues should be debated at regional meetings (and we try our best even when a
ttendance is low)but failing that this list serve is all we`ve got.
